Dr. Kieran Patel joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in July 2023. He was born and raised in Wilmington, DE and attended the University of Delaware where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. Dr. Patel then attended Drexel University College of Medicine where he received a master’s degree in medical science and his Doctor of Medicine in 2019. His time at Drexel was full of formative leadership and teaching experiences. During this time, he served as an executive board member for Drexel’s Health Outreach Projection, an organization that funded and organized five student-run health clinics in the Philadelphia area. Additionally, he developed his passion for medical education and mentorship through his experience as an academic coach and teaching assistant. Dr. Patel was recognized with numerous awards for his academic achievements while at Drexel and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Honor Society.
Dr. Patel then completed his internship and residency at Barnes-Jewish/Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in 2022. During his residency, Dr. Patel’s passion for clinical education took shape and he was recognized with numerous awards, including the PGY3 Teaching Resident of The Year Award for exemplary leadership, patient care, and teaching. He then joined the Division of Internal Medicine in 2022 as Chief Resident at the Barnes-Jewish/Washington University School of Medicine where he was responsible for leading clinical education for the internal medicine residents. Dr. Patel’s current areas of interest include general internal medicine with focus on medical education and clinical reasoning. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends. His hobbies include running, hiking, traveling, and rooting for all his favorite Philadelphia sports teams.
