The Advancing Women in Academic Medicine (AWAM) program actively identifies and provides guidance to women fellows and faculty within the Department of Medicine to achieve leadership opportunities on institutional, local, national and international levels with the intention of achieving representation, professional rank, and compensation equal to that of their male counterparts.

Summary
Advancing Women in Academic Medicine (AWAM) is part of a comprehensive strategy within the Department of Medicine to enhance the professional advancement of women fellows and faculty. The program works closely with Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Allyship and Social Justice (IDEAS) at Department of Medicine and partners with the Forum for Women in Medicine to build an environment that facilitates career achievement of women faculty and trainees. Guided by an advisory board composed of diverse leaders within the Department of Medicine, Advancing Women in Academic Medicine (AWAM) provides active oversight of early and mid-career women faculty advancement and direct consultation and mentoring to women fellows and faculty throughout their careers with Washington University School of Medicine.
