Dr. Hazera Khatun joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in July 2024. She was born and raised in Bangladesh. She earned her MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) degree from Dhaka Medical College in 2004. She completed her internship at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. Additionally, she completed specialist training in Hematology and was awarded fellowship in Hematology by BCPS (Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons) in 2012. She continued to practice Hematology in Bangladesh since then and has published multiple articles in clinical research in benign and malignant Hematology. Dr. Khatun is a Commonwealth Scholar and has obtained an MSc in Biomedical sciences at King’s College London, UK. This has spurred her interest in translational research in Multiple Myeloma.
Her works on tumor microenvironment and drug resistance in Multiple Myeloma have been published in ASH annual meetings and British Journal of Hematology. After relocating to the USA, Dr. Khatun completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, NJ from 2016-2019. She was an associate chief resident in her program. She has been practicing as a full-time hospitalist since 2019. She has an interest in clinical education and has briefly served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University. Her keys interests include inpatient care, patient satisfaction and quality improvement, and end of life care. She is interested in teaching medical students and residents. Her research interest is in clinical and translational research in Hematologic malignancies. In her spare time, she enjoys painting, yoga, hiking, and travelling. She is an avid gardener and has a fascination for tropical plants.
