Dr. Geneva E. Guarin joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in July 2023. She completed her undergraduate studies with a degree in Bachelor of Sciences in Health Sciences and graduated cum laude at the Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines with a full scholarship grant. Soon after, she pursued a dual degree program, Doctor of Medicine and Master of Business Administration at the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health, also through a scholarship. During her time in medical school, Geneva involved herself in various organizations that help take care of children with cancer as well as retired Jesuit priests. After medical school graduation and obtaining her physician license in the Philippines, Geneva worked as a general physician in emergency room settings in the Philippines while preparing for the United States Medical Licensure Exam.
She applied for internal medicine residency training in the United States and matched at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2020. During her residency training, not only did she foster camaraderie and lasting friendships with her co-residents, but she also developed her passion for hematology and oncology, and caring for patients ridden with cancer. Her clinical interests also include end-of-life care, underserved patient populations, and education of medical students and residents. Her key interests are Hematology and oncology, disparities in cancer care and hospital medicine. Outside of medicine, Geneva spends her time reading books, practicing yoga, running, listening to music, and hanging out with her friends. Raised in Manila by a family who loves cooking and eating good food, she also dedicates her time in trying out different cuisines wherever she goes. She looks forward to providing care for her patients and remains inspired by her dream to make a difference in her patients’ lives one small act of kindness at a time.
