We’re excited to announce a new process for nominating DOM faculty members to the AAMC Early-Career Women Faculty Leadership Development Seminar. Deadline is January 15, 2024.
This will be a Two-Step Process
- Complete the DOM internal nomination process [see below]
- If selected, a letter from the chair along with the nomination materials will be submitted to Dr. Renee Shellhaas’s office for review
This is a very competitive application process. WashU will sponsor 4 faculty across the medical campus to attend. The AAMC limits the number of faculty selected from each institution due to space limitations.
AAMC Early Career Seminar for Women Faculty
The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and the Office of Faculty Promotions & Career Development will jointly sponsor the tuition for up to four faculty members for each seminar. The selected faculty members’ Departments are expected to cover the costs of travel, lodging, and incidentals related to program participation.
The Early Career Seminar for Women Faculty is designed for women physicians and scientists
- with a minimum of two years of experience (from the date of the seminar) as an Assistant Professor.
- who have held an academic appointment at a school of medicine for 8 years or less.
Conference Dates: July 16-19, 2024
Location: Rancho Bernardo Inn, San Diego, California
Up to four nominees from across the medical campus will be selected to receive tuition support for this program. The nominees’ departments will be expected to fund travel, lodging, and incidentals related to program participation.

- Personal statement (maximum 300 words) that describes your career goals, how attendance at this seminar will contribute to your career development, and how the curriculum is applicable to your leadership roles at this particular time.
- You must also include the following information (not included in the word count)
- Statement of commitment to attend the full in-person seminar
- Statement that your division chief supports your nomination and will provide funding for transportation/lodging and other expenses related to attending the conference that is not covered by WashU. [Please note: If selected, WashU will cover tuition cost only]
- Division & Number of years as Assistant Professor
- Total number of years you have held an academic appointment at any school of medicine
If selected, a letter of support will be written by Dr. Vicky Fraser, Chair Department of Medicine and your submission materials will be forwarded to Dr. Renee Shellhaas’s office for consideration.
