Residents of the Month

Megan Price, MD

Dr. Megan Price: “She had an extremely challenging clinic patient with multiple very severe medical co-morbidities in clinic for an ROV visit. She was very through in addressing all of the issues, her communication with the patient was superb, she had great follow up with all of the appropriate specialists following the patient, and her clinic note was excellent(anyone reading it will easily be able to understand the plan and the logic behind it). This patient would have been a challenge for even a senior resident, and she handled the situation like she’d had years of experience.”

Dr. Dallin Merrell

Dr. Dallin Merrell: “He went above and beyond in caring for a patient facing an extremely challenging social situation while on firm. When we needed collateral information, multiple attempts to reach the patient’s family by phone were unsuccessful. He persisted, making additional calls until he was finally able to connect with the family, who provided critical details that enabled the team to establish the diagnosis and begin appropriate treatment. Throughout this process, He built a strong therapeutic alliance with the patient and effectively coordinated care across several specialty services to ensure she received the support she needed. His persistence, clear communication, empathy, and strong work ethic exemplified outstanding patient-centered care.

Chriswell

Dr. Meagan Chriswell: “While on AMBJAR, she saw a patient who had been lost to follow up for many months despite having multiple uncontrolled co-morbidities. She was able to address the concern that brought them to the AMBJAR clinic but also took the time to manage the most pressing chronic conditions. She ensured that he was safe at home and had the support/supplies that he needed.  She went above and beyond what is expected in an acute care visit. Great work!”

“She impressed me with her capacity to manage a busy AMBJAR clinic AND create meaningful teaching experiences for clerkship students. There was one day when the schedule was over-flowing, and the AMBJAR team was reduced to two residents. The AMBJARS were working really hard to see all the patients, and they were assigned to work with clerkship students at the same time. It would have been easier for her to reduce the clerkship students’ involvement in an effort to make patient care more efficient. Instead, I observed her giving each clerkship student time and space to practice and demonstrate their skills while supplementing with her own clinical reasoning to maintain high quality of patient care. Thank you!!”

“She used her firm month to practice the hardest leadership skills. She was vulnerable with her areas of growth, communicated her needs to her team, set goals and achieved them, and was the best support for two new interns. Specifically, she advocated for patients to the cardiology teams and got them the care that they needed. For one patient, she coordinated with palliative care and hospice to bring the patient and his wife both home on hospice at the same time. She led the meetings independently and really helped the children get on the same page to care for their parents. It was SO special to see her thrive.”

Ali

Dr. Yawar Ali: “During his time on Firm, he distinguished himself as a knowledgeable resident with good bedside manner, compassionate, humanistic and very polite toward the patients and their family. I give him a very high standard in his way to practice medicine. He really deserves to be recognized. Thank you.”

”He continues to be excellent; he handled new interns/team with ease, everyone on the team commented how calming his presence is, he is super thorough/on top of all orders/ results etc.; anytime I had a question for the interns, he already had asked.”

Kudos

""
Julia Araneta: I had the privilege of working with her recently on firm. She is a wonderful and humble senior towards her interns/med students. She is very knowledgeable and very efficient in her running the team and making sure all tasks are completed. I loved her checklist style that she had in our work room where she would mark tasks for interns to check off on each patient. All our patients were well managed, no adverse events and some very socially very challenging which Julia handled like a pro. She also has a great communication style which is very clear and direct and helps patients understand their issues. She is already working like a third-year senior despite this being her first time on firm.
Liz Twichell: Saw an add on IOV in last appt of the day after seeing a full schedule of patients both in the morning and in the afternoon with only one “no show”. Dr. Twichell was professional, thorough and efficient despite seeing a whole host of complicated patients even with the add-on IOV at the end of the day providing each and every pt with the same level of care.
Alyssa Bren: For her first time senioring firm, Alyssa was already an incredible team leader. She took charge of all goals of care conversations, stayed late to meet with difficult to reach family members, and expertly navigated busy call days. The students and interns were always well prepared for rounds.
Feldeisen
Delaney Feldeisen:  is a fantastic doctor. As the attending, I was there to support her decisions and her team but she could easily run things independently. She also was able to navigate a very difficult GOC conversation and change in code status in such an admirable way. I took notes of.
Fardiah Salau:
Excellence on Medicine Firm. Dr. Salau was a great senior resident and performed above her PGY2 level. She was excellent in managing very difficult family and patient interactions and was also very knowledgeable and independent in medical decision making.
Hassan
Ghandi Hassan: I worked with him on a busy inpatient service with a high turnaround rate. He always stayed extremely positive, never showing frustration with difficult discharges or disposition issues. He was faced with multiple difficult dispo situations and moved mountains to get patients the proper care and resources they needed outside the hospital, and often was able to get things done that I didn’t even think were possible!
Jenny Chen: Went above and beyond when managing her patients on firm. I want to highlight one specific instance where we had one patient with chronic pain from previous injuries on a significant amount of controlled substances prior to presentation and whose PCP no longer was willing to manage after discharge. The patient wished to discharge on the weekend when we only had a tentative plan for a new provider to manage these medications. Dr. Chen extensively counseled the patient and spoke to the pharmacy multiple times to find a regimen that would work with the patient’s finances. Even after the patient discharged, Dr. Chen followed up with the patient and other providers to ensure that the patient could continue to receive her medications.
Karoliina Yang:
Exceptional leadership and teaching on cardiology firm.
Kavita Patwardhan:
Best senior one could ask for on nights. Calm, cool, and basically a second fellow to defer to.
Raaghav Bageshwar:
Hard worker, reliable, cares about the patients and very eager to learn.
Matt Samaro:
Consummate leadership of a busy Firm service with multiple complex patients. I look forward to having Matt as a colleague this coming year!
Nick Boyle: Excellent handling of a medically and emotionally challenging code on Cards Firm.
Ashley Debauge, Derek Ge, Annabelle Yang, Andrew Smith and Jeremiah Lubika: At 02:00 am, the ACT  was called to a critical incident where two individuals sustained significant injuries from a violent altercation in the hospital lobby. Without hesitation, everyone immediately jumped into action—calmly, professionally, and with true compassion. Some members worked swiftly to control bleeding while others attended to the second injured party, ensuring both received equitable and expert care. In a high-pressure situation, the team demonstrated remarkable composure, collaboration, and dedication.

Congratulations to all our amazing residents, and thank you for the work that you do!
