Leadership Announcement – Interventional Cardiology

Sintek

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Marc Sintek, Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship, has been appointed as the next Director of the BJH Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Dr. Sintek has served as Associate Director of the Cath Lab since 2023 and will take the reins from Dr. Jas Singh, who has served in an interim role since Dr. Kurz’s retirement. Dr. Sintek has been a key faculty member of the interventional and structural section since 2017. 

As Associate Cath Lab Director, he demonstrated leadership and dedication to process and quality improvement, culture development, and building multidisciplinary teams and collaborative hospital partnerships. This includes institution of the Complex Coronary Team for shared decision-making regarding interventional versus surgical coronary revascularization. I am delighted that Marc is taking on this new role as BJH Cath Lab Director.

Zajarias

I am also pleased to announce that Dr. Alan Zajarias, Professor of Medicine and Director of Structural Heart Disease in the Cardiovascular Division, has been appointed as Director, Interventional and Structural Research. Dr. Zajarias has been a national leader in the field of structural and valvular interventions, and together with our partners in CV surgery, has developed an elite structural heart program at WashU with the use novel device innovations, while leading and participating in several multicenter clinical trials in structural interventions. His strengths in innovation and program building will ensure growth and leadership of interventional and structural clinical research at WashU and provide a platform for training in new devices. I am delighted that he will lead the effort to expand the division’s clinical research portfolio in interventional and structural cardiology, in addition to directing the structural heart disease clinical program in Cardiology.
