Ian Ross to Receive Sydney S. Pearl ’32 Clinical Teacher of the Year Award

Ian Ross, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, WashU Division of General Medicine and Geriatrics, is to receive the Sydney S. Pearl ’32 Clinical Teacher of the Year Award at the 2024 WashU Commencement Ceremony.

The Sydney S. Pearl, fund was established in 1978 with a gift of $10,000 to endow the “Sydney S. Pearl MD ’32 Award” to be presented to the “voluntary clinical faculty member for inspirational teaching at WUSM annually.” A letter dated November 8, 1976 from John C. Thompson (former Director of Deferred Giving Program at WashU) to Dr. Sydney Pearl stated, “It would be very appropriate to make an annual award to the best clinical faculty member…selected by the senior class. There is no other award for this purpose.”

Sydney S. Pearl, MD, an alumnus of the WashU class of 1932, established an award in 1978 to recognize inspirational teaching among the clinical faculty members of the medical school.

Ian Ross, MD

I’m enormously honored that the graduating class has recognized me in this way. I believe this award is a testament to what can be accomplished when our WashU Department of Medicine’s numerous divisions collaborate to build a special rotation, the Internal Medicine Advanced Clinical Rotation. I especially appreciate the support I’ve received from our VA and WUSM leaders!”

Dr. Ross will be honored at the Doctor of Medicine Commencement Ceremony held on Monday, May 13th at the Varsity Gym, Sumers Athletic Complex at 3pm CT.
