Dr. Safia Shaikh joined the Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine as an Instructor in July of 2022. She was born in Pakistan. She received her medical degree in 2013 from Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Sindh, Pakistan and graduated with honors in 2013. She started her Internal medicine residency at Dow University Health Sciences but later moved to the USA in 2019 for her Internal Medicine career. She was awarded the full merit LUMHS Scholarship from 2008-2012 and was also selected as a South Asian Student star. Dr. Shaikh completed her internship and residency at SSM Health St Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis prior to joining the division in 2022. She has had varied interests and participated in many projects during her training. She enjoys teaching and working with both medical students and residents.
Dr. Shaikh has been very active in scholarly and research activities and has various peer reviewed publications. She was also provided the opportunity to present in American Thoracic Society, American College and Physicians and American College of Cardiology meetings. Her current areas of interest are general internal medicine with focus on inpatient care. She has a special interest in Cardiovascular medicine. Her key interests are hospital medicine, inpatient care, cardiology, and quality improvement and she is interested in cost effective medicine focused for patient care and measures to decrease readmission rate. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Outside of medicine, her hobbies include traveling, hiking, trying new cuisines and cooking. She cooks a mix of eastern and western dishes. She looks forward to providing care for her patients as a member of the Division of Hospital Medicine.
