National Suicide Prevention Week

September 8 – 14, 2024

National Suicide Prevention week and National Suicide Prevention month both happen during the month of September, however it’s important we offer support throughout the year. Increasing awareness of this leading cause of death is vital to saving a life and enabling each other to support this cause.

Often times, those suffering are right next to us, going about their daily lives, and unbeknownst to us, not sharing their daily struggles. The triennial theme for World Suicide Prevention Day for 2024-2026 is “Changing the Narrative on Suicide” with the call to action “Start the Conversation”. The purpose of this theme is to raise awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and promoting open conversations about suicide prevention. It’s important to know that we can ALL make a difference by learning the warning signs, knowing risk factors and being willing to have honest conversations with those we care about. Having those conversations might be the difference between life and death.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention encourages that if you are in a crisis call or text 988 or text TALK to 741741

We need to make a difference by helping #TalkAwaytheDark and remove the stigmatism associated with asking for help. Our ability to offer support to one another is one of the most fulfilling things we can do. Let’s embrace National Suicide Week, National Suicide Prevention Month, and all throughout the year, by being there for one another.
