Leadership Announcement – Co-Director for the Internal Medicine Advanced Clinical Rotation

We are pleased to to announce Alex Lane, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, has been appointed as Co-Director for the Internal Medicine Advanced Clinical Rotation (ACR).

Lane

Dr. Lane graduated from Southern Illinois School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He was selected as a chief resident. During his residency, Dr. Lane fostered his interest in medical education, creating resident and medical student curricula in high value care, patient safety, and simulated patient encounters. His curriculum in High Value Care was awarded first place in high value curricula at the High Value Care National Conference. As a faculty member in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Dr. Lane regularly supervises phase III medical students on the Hospitalist and FIRM service teams and has collaborated with current ACR leadership to develop a scheduling algorithm for Hospital Medicine learners.

This work has significantly improved learner distribution and intentionally integrates ACR students into the Hospital Medicine Consolidated Teaching Teams, which he also directs. Dr. Lane will be joining ACR leadership alongside Dr. Carol Faulk. ACR Directors provide the overall professional, administrative, and educational leadership for phase III medical students on the Internal Medicine ACR. Dr. Faulk shared, “I’m thrilled to have Alex as my IM-ACR co-director. His experience as a chief resident and managing the prelim residents on the hospitalist service as well as his diligent, affable character will make him a great addition to our team!”

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Ian Ross for his service as the prior ACR Co-Director. Dr. Ross is transitioning to a leadership role at the St. Louis Veterans Administration Medical Center. Dr. Ross did an outstanding job during his time with the Internal Medicine ACR, and we are grateful for his leadership. We wish him well in his new role.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Lane on this
well-deserved appointment!
