Research grants and awards from Conquer Cancer accelerate the progress of oncology professionals

Emily Podany, MD, Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program, Fellow Wellness Leader, WashU Medicine Division of Oncology, received the 2025 Conquer Cancer – Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Endowed Young Investigator Award in Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity.
The Young Investigator Award (YIA) provides research funding to promising young physicians during the final years of training to support their transition to faculty appointments and to encourage quality research in clinical oncology. The award was given for Podany’s project entitled, “Bridging the targeted treatment use gap between Black and White patients with HR+ HER2- metastatic breast cancer.”
This award is deeply meaningful to me as it helps me to build upon and expand my work in circulating tumor DNA, precision medicine, public health, implementation science, and health disparities. I am lucky to have such incredible mentors, Dr. Foluso Ademuyiwa and Dr. Andrew Davis, at Washington University and nationally, and I am excited to continue to collaborate with them as I join the faculty this year.
These awards will be given in conjunction with the 2025 ASCO Annual Meeting held in Chicago, Illinois, May 30–June 3. Conquer Cancer’s grants and awards support oncology professionals at every career stage, to help accelerate breakthroughs in research.
“We would not be able to carry out our mission without these amazing individuals and organizations and the donors who support the foundation’s awards and grants program who help make our work possible,”
