Dr. Thabet Qapaja joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in July 2024. Born and raised in Amman, Jordan, he has always been driven by a passion for medicine. He attended the University of Jordan – School of Medicine, graduating with Honors in 2018. Dr. Qapaja completed his internship and residency at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, Cleveland, OH from 2019 to 2022. He received multiple recognition awards for his hard work, professionalism, and outstanding patient care as a resident. Following his residency, he served as a hospitalist and Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Cleveland Clinic/Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine (CCLCM) of Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH from 2022 to 2024 before joining the Department of Internal Medicine at Washington University, St. Louis in 2024.
Throughout his training, he engaged in various interests and participated in numerous research projects. Dr. Qapaja finds great fulfillment in teaching and collaborating with medical students and residents. With a research focus on Gastroenterology, his interests lie in the epidemiology of gastrointestinal diseases and cancers, celiac disease, as well as inflammatory bowel disease treatment and outcomes. Presently, Dr. Qapaja’s primary clinical areas of interest encompass general internal medicine, particularly emphasizing inpatient care, with a special focus on gastroenterology. Beyond the confines of the hospital, he enjoys spending quality time with family and friends. His leisure pursuits include reading, traveling, exploring new culinary experiences, and watching soccer. Dr. Qapaja eagerly anticipates delivering compassionate care to his patients as a dedicated member of the Division of Hospital Medicine.
