Dr. Syeda Ashna Fatima Kamal joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital as an Instructor in September 2025. She brings a diverse and robust background in internal medicine, oncology, and palliative care to her role. She was born in Karachi, Pakistan, and spent much of her formative years in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where she completed her middle school, high school, and college education. She earned her medical degree from Dow International Medical College in Pakistan, graduating in 2018. Dr. Kamal’s postgraduate training began with an internal medicine residency internship at Lincoln Medical Center in Bronx, New York.
She then continued her internal medicine residency as a PGY-2 and PGY-3 at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, Illinois, where she graduated in 2024. Following her residency, she pursued a palliative care fellowship at Saint Louis University, completing it in 2025. Throughout her career, Dr. Kamal has maintained a deep passion for internal medicine, with particular interests in oncology—specifically solid tumor oncology—and benign hematology. She has presented her research multiple times at prestigious conferences, including the American Society of Hematology (ASH) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), reflecting her dedication to advancing knowledge in her field.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Kamal is a multifaceted artist who enjoys expressing her creativity through various mediums. Her hobbies include cooking, stitching, knitting, painting, and sketching. She is currently exploring digital art and animation, combining her artistic talents with modern technology. Outside of her professional and creative pursuits, she values quality time with her family and seeks to surround herself with positive and compassionate individuals. Dr. Kamal is committed to providing exceptional patient care, contributing to medical education, and continuing her involvement in clinical research, particularly in the realm of oncology and hematology.
