Dr. Sopiko Gogia joins the Department of Medicine

Sopiko Gogia, MD

Dr. Sopiko Gogia joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in July 2025. She earned her medical degree from the American MD Program at Tbilisi State Medical University in 2020. During medical school, she actively participated in several community serving projects. After graduation, she worked as a junior doctor and clinical trial coordinator at the Cancer Research Center (K. Mardaleishvili Clinic) in Tbilisi.  

Dr. Gogia later became a resident physician in the Medical Oncology Program. During that time, she contributed to developing cervical and breast cancer guidelines for Georgia as part of the City Cancer Challenge initiative, which aims to improve access to quality cancer care in low- and middle-income countries. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Gogia served as an invited lecturer of biochemistry at Tbilisi State Medical University and as a mentor to medical students, guiding them on both academic and clinical matters. She moved to the U.S. in 2022 and completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at Ascension Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, before joining the Division of Hospital Medicine at WashU Medicine.  

Her key interests include hospital medicine with a particular interest in hematology and oncology. Her other interests are patient safety, quality improvement, and point-of-care ultrasound. She also enjoys teaching and working with medical students and residents.  Outside of medicine, she enjoys attending classical music concerts and ballets, going on walks, listening to various podcasts, and practicing yoga and Pilates. She looks forward to providing care for her patients as a member of the Division of Hospital Medicine.
