Dr. Shannon Zalewski joins the Department of Medicine

Shannon Zalewski, MD

Dr. Shannon Zalewski joined the Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine in July of 2021. She was born in Madison, WI and grew up in a suburb of Chicago. She attended Purdue University where she initially enrolled in the pre-pharmacy program, but ultimately decided to pursue a career in medicine. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in 2014 with a major in biology and a focus in human health and disease. She graduated with highest distinction and was invited into the Phi Beta Kappa society. She received her medical degree in 2018 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. During her time in medical school she participated in a summer research program in genetics, a longitudinal scholarly project in rheumatology, and volunteered at a women’s shelter.

Dr. Zalewski completed her internal medicine internship and residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital / Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis prior to joining the Division in 2021. In addition to her clinical work during residency, she enjoyed working in a variety of setting and subspecialties, and participated in multiple academic projects, including research in rheumatology and a quality improvement study at the VA. Her current areas of interest are general internal medicine focusing on inpatient care. She is looking forward to providing evidence-based and compassionate care for a diverse patient population as an Instructor in the Division of Hospital Medicine. Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time with her family in Wisconsin, traveling, yoga, taking cycling classes, and rooting for her favorite sports teams including the Green Bay Packers and Purdue basketball.
