Dr. Shaili Tapiavala joins the Department of Medicine

Shaili Tapiavala, MD

Dr. Shaili Tapiavala joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in July of 2025. She was born in New York and soon moved to Dallas, Texas. She attended the University of Miami with merit scholarship and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Public Health and a minor in Chemistry. She dedicated her time in her undergraduate years to improving public health interventions through the Miami-Dade Area Health Education Center and teaching at an under-resourced high school to improve science education and encourage higher education in STEM fields for minority children.  

She subsequently received her medical degree from Texas A&M College of Medicine in 2022.  She completed her internship and residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/WashU Medicine prior to joining the division in 2025. During her training, she was accepted to the Clinical Scientist Training and Research Pathway and took a graduate level course on clinical research design. Dr. Tapiavala was awarded multiple grants to fund her clinical research.

In addition to her clinical skills and research work, she developed a strong interest in medical education and further enhanced her leadership abilities by completed the Future Workforce in Medicine Development Program. Her current areas of interest focus on health equity in oncologic care and treatment-related toxicity and its implications for patient morbidity. Her work aims to improve outcomes for underserved populations and address disparities in cancer care. Outside of medicine, she enjoys traveling and experiencing new cultures, trying new restaurants, spending time outdoors, and cooking.
