Dr. Parth Shah joins the Department of Medicine

Parth Shah, MD

Dr. Parth Shah joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology as an Assistant Professor in July 2024.  He received his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center followed by gastroenterology fellowship and transplant hepatology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. His passion for medicine began at a young age while volunteering at a free clinic in Los Angeles that focused on providing care to an underserved population. In medical school, he worked with hepatologists in St. Louis to increase awareness and treatment of hepatitis B and C viruses and he was awarded the Rodney M. Coe Distinction in Community Service.  During residency, Dr. Shah developed his research skills and presented various projects regarding improving outcomes of acute on chronic liver failure at meetings and conferences throughout the nation.

After moving back to St. Louis for gastroenterology fellowship, he continued his academic pursuits and completed a Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation during fellowship to couple his research interests with improvement of patient outcomes.  He also began focusing on improving the quality of life and holistic care of patients with chronic liver disease which led him to completing a Palliative Care in Hepatology training course through Stanford University.  After completing his transplant hepatology fellowship in St. Louis, he is now working to create a specialized care team that would have the tools necessary to improve not only physical symptoms of chronic liver disease but also address emotional, spiritual, and financial needs.  His key interests are Palliative care in Hepatology, Cirrhosis, liver transplantation, alcohol related liver disease, fatty liver disease, autoimmune liver disease, viral hepatitis and liver cancer.
