Dr. Nishant Poddar joins the Department of Medicine

Nishant Poddar, MD

Dr. Poddar completed medical school at V.S.S Medical College in India. He pursued a career in Internal Medicine at his medical school and went on to earn his MD in 2003. He then moved to the United States and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center in 2009. He was a Chief Resident in the third year of his residency. He completed his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology in 2012 and was the Chief Fellow in the third year of his fellowship. Most recently, he was an Assistant Professor and then an Associate Professor at Saint Louis University, Saint Louis. While at Saint Louis University he was the Director of the National Pancreatic Cancer Center Foundation for Saint Louis University as well as the Director of the Infusion Center. He was also the Associate Program Director for the Hematology/ Oncology Fellowship Program at Saint Louis University from 2015-2017.

Dr. Poddar joined the faculty of the Department of Medicine as an Associate Professor in the Division of Oncology in January of 2019. His clinical interest is in caring for patients with gastrointestinal and lung cancers and enrolling them on clinical trials, with the goal of continually advancing the standard of care for these diseases. He is a clinical researcher who will focus his academic efforts on clinical trial design, with a particular focus on precision medicine and immunotherapy trials in Lung and GI cancers. He has been site PI for plenty of trials in GI and lung cancers at Saint Louis University in the past. He will also be the Medical Director of the clinical trials unit in the Illinois location.
