Dr. Nichole Zehnder joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of General Medicine as an Associate Professor in April, 2020.
Dr. Zehnder is Associate Dean for Educational Strategy and Associate Professor of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Zehnder has extensive experience in curriculum development, admissions, student affairs, and faculty development. Dr. Zehnder was previously on faculty at the University of Colorado where she held a variety of leadership roles including clerkship director in internal medicine, associate director of the Integrated Clinicians Course, interim director of the Academy of Medical Educators, Assistant Dean for Admissions, and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs. At the University of Colorado, she was an integral part of the LCME reaccreditation process and chaired the student life steering committee. As Assistant Dean of Admissions, she markedly increased under-represented in medicine student recruitment through partnership with multiple pipeline programs and the development of new scholarship and funding opportunities for these students, and also implemented a novel admissions and holistic review processes. In her other roles, Dr. Zehnder has developed training programs for student coaches, implemented complex remediation plans at both the UME and GME levels, and created multiple new curricula and programs. Nationally, she works with the ACGME on resident leadership development and she has led several units through complex change management processes. She currently serves as a member of the AAMC AMCAS Advisory Committee.
Dr. Zehnder attended medical school at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, where she graduated with a distinction in community service, and then completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
