Dr. Nathan Andrew Neilson joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in June 2024. He was born in Buffalo, New York but largely grew up in Columbus, Ohio. He attended the Ohio State University and graduated magna cum laude in 2017 with a major in Biology and minors in both Human Nutrition and Spanish. He received his medical degree in 2017 from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria, Illinois. During his time in medical school, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society and graduated with honors. Dr. Neilson also was an active participant in LGBTQ+ community outreach while in Peoria, Illinois, helping to plan the city’s first major Pride festival in 2019.
Dr. Neilson completed his internship and residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/ Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis prior to joining the division of hospital medicine in 2024. He participated in the Washington University Global Health Pathway during residency, allowing him to participate in research on HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis in Accra, Ghana. He also was an active participant of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Allyship, and Social Justice (IDEAS) subcommittee. He has a variety of clinical interests including underserved medicine, LGBTQ+ health, sexual health, and global medicine. He also finds passion in mentorship and teaching medical trainees, being an active peer educator/tutor throughout medical school. Outside of medicine, he enjoys woodworking, gardening, and exploring new music. He loves exploring new restaurants in Saint Louis. He looks forward to providing care for his patients as a member of the Division of Hospital Medicine.
