Dr. Michael Joshua Hendrix joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine and the Division of Infectious Diseases as an instructor in July 2020. He was born and raised in Kingman, Arizona and completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology with an emphasis in pre-medical training at the Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff, AZ. As an undergraduate, he conducted research on the estrogenic effects of uranium in the four corners region of the United States. Dr. Hendrix graduated summa cum laude from NAU in 2010.
Dr. Hendrix moved to Little Rock, AR in 2011 where he enrolled in medical school at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). He was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha honor society in August 2013 and in May 2015 he graduated summa cum laude from UAMS School of Medicine.
He went on to complete his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis / Barnes-Jewish Hospital from 2015-2018. After completing residency, Dr. Hendrix went on to pursue his interests in Infectious Disease by completing a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Washington University in St. Louis from 2018-2020. He joined the faculty as an instructor in the Department of Medicine in both the Division of Hospital Medicine and the Division of Infectious Diseases at Washington University School of Medicine in July 2020.
He continues to participate in antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention at Washington University and sees patients on both the General Medicine and the Infectious Diseases services. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Hendrix enjoys teaching and mentoring medical students and residents on the complexities of patient care. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, rock-climbing, and playing board games with friends.
