Dr. Melis Celdir joins the Department of Medicine

Melis Celdir, MD

Dr. Melis Gokce Celdir joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology as an Assistant Professor in July 2025. Dr. Celdir earned her medical degree at Koç University School of Medicine in Istanbul, Turkey in 2017. She joined the Celiac Disease Research Group at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota as a research fellow (2018-2019). Following her research fellowship, Dr. Celdir completed her Internal Medicine residency training at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, New York (2019-2022), and her Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship at the University of Iowa (2022-2025).

Dr. Celdir’s clinical activities and research interests focus on celiac disease, enteropathies, small intestinal diseases, and clinical epidemiology. As her patient panel grows, she plans to incorporate clinical trials for celiac disease treatment and collaborate with scientists to advance the understanding of disease mechanisms and expand therapeutic options. As an educator in gastroenterology, Dr. Celdir is committed to fostering a dynamic learning environment and mentoring students and trainees. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring outdoors, sailing and cooking with family and friends.
