Dr. Mauricio García Saenz de Sicilia joined the Division of Gastroenterology in September of 2020. He received his MD from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, Facultad de Medicina in Mexico City. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine as well as his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Instituto Nacional De Ciencias Medicas y Nutricion in Mexico City. Dr. García Saenz de Sicilia subsequently completed a two-year fellowship in Advanced Transplant Hepatology at The University of Nebraska Medical Center. After completion of his training, he joined The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences hepatology faculty where he developed his research interests in Alcoholic Hepatitis and liver transplantation. At the University of Arkansas, he not only developed their Liver Tumor Program and Ascites clinic, but Dr. García Saenz de Sicilia was also instrumental in the development and improvement of Arkansas’ Liver Transplant Program where he assumed the role of Medical director. He has published a total of 17 full length original and 23 abstracts on topics ranging from the management of hepatocellular cancer to alcoholic hepatitis, one of which received an American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases AASLD) poster of distinction award. Dr. García Saenz de Sicilia is currently ABIM certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology, and board eligible in Transplant Hepatology.
Within his role with the Division of Gastroenterology, Dr. García Saenz de Sicilia performs patient-based research in alcohol related liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma and liver transplantation. His clinical practice is directed to the management of all forms of liver disease and liver transplant patients with particular interest in alcoholic hepatitis, liver transplantation and hepatocellular carcinoma, specifically staging and interventions for hepatocellular and cholangiocarcinoma.
