Dr. Massini Merzkani joins the Department of Medicine

Massini Merzkani, MD

Dr. Massini Merzkani joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology as an Assistant Professor in July, 2020.

Dr. Merzkani received his M.D. from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras in 2011. He subsequently completed his internal medicine residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 2012 – 2015. He was distinguished with three awards while at Einstein – the Best Overall Housetaff Award as PGY1, Best Teaching Award in 2014, and Best Overall Housestaff as PGY3. He pursued nephrology fellowship training at Northshore-Long Island Jewish Hofstra Medical School, graduating in 2017, and was recognized as the best nephrology fellow that year. He then moved to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he has pursued both clinical and research training in transplant nephrology.

Dr. Merzkani is an experienced transplant nephrologist and researcher. After finishing his one year clinical transplant fellowship, he spent the following two years pursuing postdoctoral research training. He has recently completed a master’s degree in Clinical Research. He has presented 25 abstracts at national conferences such as the American Transplant Congress (ATC) and the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), with 20 of those as first author. He has delivered five oral presentations including at ATC and ASN. He has authored eight peer-reviewed original articles, two as first author.
