Dr. Marwa Ahmed joins the Department of Medicine

Marwa Ahmed, MD

Dr. Marwa M. Ahmed joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in July 2024.  She was born and raised in Sudan and received her medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum in 2012.  After completing a one-year internship, she was granted permanent registration at the Sudan Medical Council enabling her to practice medicine in her home country.  She gained diverse clinical experience working in major health institutes across different subspecialties in internal medicine.  Later on, Dr. Ahmed worked as a senior house officer in emergency medicine in both her native country and in Ireland.  This experience enhanced her skills in managing acutely ill patients.

She is passionate about medical education and mentorship.  Her role as a BLS/ACLS Instructor at “Soba Education, Training, and Examination Center” in Sudan allowed her to impart life-saving skills to healthcare professionals while nurturing future instructors.  Additionally, she volunteered at one of the busiest Rheumatology clinics at Omdurman Military Hospital.  Dr. Ahmed’s commitment to advancing medical knowledge prompted her to join the Tele-Geriatric Research Fellowship at Michigan State University shortly after arriving in the United States in 2020.  There, she actively participated in research discussions and presented findings at geriatric conferences.

Dr. Ahmed completed her internship and residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri in June 2024.  During her training, she participated in several scholarly activities and presented posters at regional and national conferences.  In recognition of outstanding patient care and service, Dr. Ahmed won both the “Intern of the Year” and the “PGY-2 Resident of the Year” awards.  In addition, she served as “Chief Resident” during her third year of residency.  Her key interests are Hospital Medicine, inpatient care, patient safety and quality improvement, Rheumatology, Cardiology, Nephrology, Continuing Medical Education, Evidence-Based Medicine and Volunteer Work.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending quality time with her family, taking pictures of flowers, cooking new recipes, and playing Sudoku.
