Dr. Maria Aponte Farias joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Bone and Mineral Diseases as an Instructor as of January 2025. Dr. Aponte’s key research interests focus on the intersection of endocrinology, metabolic diseases, and bone health. She is particularly dedicated to exploring metabolic interventions for diabetes, obesity, and related comorbidities, aiming to develop innovative treatments that can improve long-term patient outcomes. Her research also emphasizes bone health in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and endocrine disorders, including studies on bone quality, mechanical competence, and renal osteodystrophy. Dr. Aponte’s goal is to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical care to better serve vulnerable populations.
