Dr. Lauren Van Buren joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in June of 2023. She was born in Florida, but spent most of her childhood in Indianapolis, IN. She attended the University of Alabama and graduated summa cum laude and with University Honors in 2016 with a major in Psychology and minors in Biology and Social Work. She was awarded the full merit Presidential Scholarship and the Emerging Scholars Research Scholarship. During her college years, she was a hospice volunteer and spent a summer on a medical mission trip to the Philippines, both of which solidified her desire to go into to medicine. Dr. Van Buren received her medical degree in 2020 from Indiana University School of Medicine.
Throughout medical school, she served on various committees for the American Medical Women’s Association and participated in mentorship/teaching for pre-clinical medical students. She was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society in 2020. Dr. Van Buren completed her internship and residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital / Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis prior to joining the division in 2023. She served as an Internal Medicine representative to the GME Wellness Committee, where she was able to plan and carry out wellness initiatives for house staff. Her current interests include general inpatient medicine with a special interest in gastroenterology, physician wellness, preventative care, and clinical education of medical students and residents. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, playing board games, and watching sports (especially Alabama football, roll tide!).
