Dr. Lalit Chandra Kalvala joined the Washington University Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an instructor in June 2020.
Dr. Kalvala was born and raised in Warangal, India where he pursued his medical education. During his medical schooling in India, he volunteered in several health camps held to educate the underserved communities about preventing mosquito-borne illnesses in endemic dengue fever regions. He graduated from Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, India in 2016 and then moved to St. Louis to join the internal medicine residency program at St. Luke’s Hospital, Chesterfield from 2017–2020. During his residency, he had diverse research interests and participated in several research projects. He had exposure to various sub-specialties and ultimately discovered his interests in general internal medicine and cardiology.
Dr. Kalvala wants to work at a large academic medical center to gain more exposure in internal medicine and further explore his interest in the field of cardiology by partaking in research projects. He realizes the importance of being a good internist and believes that the onus of navigating the patient through our complex health system which includes a maze of sub-specialists, invasive tests and enormous medical bills largely lies with the internist. He is excited to join the Division of Hospital Medicine at Washington University to accomplish his goals of having a meaningful and positive impact on the health of people especially the underserved communities by providing evidence-based high-quality care.
Outside of medicine, he is a sports enthusiast and loves playing table tennis and tennis with his friends. He also likes to sample St. Louis restaurants and play the guitar.
