Dr. Kelsey Chow joins the Department of Medicine

Kelsey Chow, MD

Dr. Kelsey Chow joined the Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine as an Instructor in July of 2021. She was born in Canada but grew up mostly in Centennial, Colorado. She completed her bachelor’s degree in both Biochemistry and Economics at the University of Colorado at Boulder. After college, she became interested in bench research and was a professional research assistant at the University of Colorado in Aurora for a year. There, she was involved in several research projects revolving around lung mesenchymal stem cells and the stem cell niche. She presented findings at the American Thoracic Society before starting medical school. She moved to Chicago for medical school and received her medical degree in 2015 from the Chicago Medical School in North Chicago. She fell in love with the city (mainly the restaurants and summer weather), and completed her residency training at Rush University Medical Center in 2018. She stayed at Rush as a hospitalist until 2021.

During her time as a hospitalist, she focused on reducing hospital readmissions and decreasing length of stay by writing Executive Summaries, which were action plans for patients who were frequently readmitted. She also taught medical students and residents both in teaching rounds and extra clinical sessions. Her areas of interest are inpatient medicine, reducing hospital readmissions, and teaching residents and medical students. Outside of hospital life, she enjoys reading, painting and playing board and computer games with friends. She is always up for trying new things, and also enjoys traveling and exploring new restaurants.
