Dr. Kasey Hornbuckle joins the Department of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor as of July 2026.
Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, she graduated summa cum laude from Tuskegee University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. At Tuskegee, she embraced a culture of excellence, resilience, and rich history, which laid the foundation for her commitment to leadership, community engagement, and mentorship.
Dr. Hornbuckle earned her Doctor of Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, where she participated in the Ohio Health Physician Diversity Scholars Program and the Student National Medical Association. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/WashU Medicine in St. Louis. During residency, she participated in the Future Workforce in Medicine (FWIM) Trainee Leadership Development Program (2025), served as a Junior Course Director for the American Gastroenterological Association Women in Gastroenterology Workshop, and was a member of the Washington University Minority Medical Association.
Throughout her training, Dr. Hornbuckle has actively contributed to clinical and translational research in preventive medicine, cancer screening, and health disparities. Her work assessed factors influencing colorectal cancer screening among Black men and patients at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Primary Care Medicine Clinic.
Beyond her clinical and research work, Dr. Hornbuckle is committed to mentoring students from underrepresented backgrounds in medicine and promoting community health initiatives. She currently mentors for Black Girl White Coat (BGWC), a nonprofit organization that empowers and supports Black women pursuing careers in healthcare through mentorship, scholarships, and academic resources. She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and baking.
