Dr. Jeffrey Tarrasch joins the Department of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor as of July 2026.
Dr. Tarrasch grew up in Los Altos, CA before attending University of California, Los Angeles where he studied chemistry. He developed an interest in research throughout college, and upon graduating he moved to Ann Arbor, MI where he began work in a structural biology lab. He researched GPCRs and other small protein complexes with electron microscopy techniques. He missed public service, however, and switched careers to work as a high school teacher in Chicago. He taught earth sciences and chemistry to high school sophomores while also leading the cross country and track teams after school. Throughout his time working in a lab and as a high school educator, Dr. Tarrasch solidified his interests in research, education, and public service.
He took these interests to St. Louis where he attended medical school at Washington University in St. Louis. While in medical school he continued working with high school students through university programs and led science classes at KIPP charter school. He graduated in 2023 and began internal medicine residency at WashU Medicine/Barnes-Jewish Hospital 2023-2026. While as a resident he participated in the Washington University Teaching Physicians Pathway program and researched the effect of novel TAVR deployment techniques on pacemaker implantation rates. His clinical interests include medical student and resident education, preventative care, and quality improvement. In his spare time, he enjoys hanging out with his wife and pets (cat and dog), playing tennis, and watching the San Francisco Giants.
