Dr. Ihab Hassanieh joins the Department of Medicine

Dr. Ihab Hassanieh joined the Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine as an Instructor in June 2021. He was born in a small village in Lebanon and moved to Beirut, Lebanon to attend the American University of Beirut. There, he graduated in 2012 with a major in Biology and received his Medical Degree in 2016. During that period, he was involved in basic biology research and was an active member of the Lebanese Red Cross. In 2017, he finished an internship year of general surgery at the American University of Beirut. During his time in the internship, he continued to be involved in cardiology research and eventually pursued a year as a research fellow in 2018.

Dr. Hassanieh completed his internship and residency at Saint Louis University Hospital/ Saint Louis University School of Medicine prior to joining the Internal Medicine Department at Washington University in 2021. He participated in many projects during his training, including quality improvement projects and cardiology research. He has presented his publications in conferences around the country including the American College of Cardiology and the American Medical Association. His current areas of interest are General Inpatient Medicine with special interest in cardiology. He is currently exploring opportunities for the use of artificial intelligence in medicine. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends. Outside of work his hobbies include working out in the gym, traveling and swimming. He also enjoys winter sports, especially snowboarding. He looks forward to providing care for patients as a member of the Division of Hospital Medicine.
