Dr. Hunter Cochran joins the Department of Medicine in the Division of Oncology as an Assistant Professor as of July 2026.
Dr. Hunter Cassidy Cochran completed her undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and earned her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr. Cochran subsequently completed internal medicine residency training at WashU Medicine, followed by fellowship training in hematology and oncology at the same institution, where she also served as Chief Fellow. Her clinical practice focuses on the care of patients with B-cell malignancies, including aggressive lymphomas, Hodgkin lymphoma, and follicular lymphoma, as well as the management of complex oncologic complications. Dr. Cochran maintains an active research program closely aligned with her clinical interests, with scholarly contributions in molecular risk stratification, MRD/ctDNA-based disease monitoring, and outcomes research in lymphoma. She has participated in multicenter collaborations examining prognostic models and transplant-related outcomes and has developed a focused academic niche in understanding and preventing CNS relapse in DLBCL.
In addition to her research and clinical roles, Dr. Cochran is deeply committed to medical education and mentorship, regularly teaching medical students, residents, and fellows through lectures, case-based conferences, and hands-on training. She is also a newly appointed member of the Washington University in St. Louis Institutional Review Board, reflecting her commitment to ethical clinical research and human subjects protection. Through her combined roles as clinician, investigator, educator, and IRB member, Dr. Cochran aims to advance biologically informed, patient-centered lymphoma care while contributing to the responsible conduct of clinical research.
