Dr. Faran Polani joins the Department of Medicine

Faran Polani, MD

Dr. Faran Polani joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an instructor in September 2020.

Dr. Polani graduated medical school in 2011 from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan, one of the oldest and top ranked medical schools in the country. He was his class valedictorian and spent most his elective clerkship time as an exchange student in universities such as Northwestern and Kansas University. This sparked his interest in pursuing post graduate training in North America.

He finished his residency from Marshfield Medical Center Internal Medicine residency program, in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He also served as a chief resident in the same program. He enjoys teaching medical students and residents. During his time as a chief resident he developed and implemented a Patient Safety and Quality Improvement (PSQI) curriculum for his residency program. He also collaborated with radiology faculty in Marshfield to develop core competencies for internal medicine residents on radiology electives.

Dr. Polani is board certified in Internal Medicine and is a hospitalist by profession, however, he primarily focuses on acute inpatient management of cancer patients. He provides care exclusively on inpatient Medical Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant services. His area of research interest is in the field of oncology- including prevention, treatment and improvement in quality of life of cancer patients. He is most interested in research focused on cancer immunology and development of immune therapies in the treatment of cancer.

Outside the hospital he likes travelling and exploring different cultures and cuisines. Dr. Polani’s wife is also a cuisine connoisseur. They enjoy cooking together and travelling for food. He is an avid cricket fan and an aviation enthusiast.
