Dr. Eric Mittauer joins the Department of Medicine

Eric Mittauer, MD

Dr. Eric Mittauer joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in July of 2025. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and grew up across the country in Florida, Virginia, Connecticut, and Iowa. He attended college at the University of Iowa, graduating with honors in 2018 with a BS in Human Physiology and a minor in Biology. He attended medical school at Washington University in St Louis, graduating in 2022. During medical school he conducted research studying aortic disease and served on the admissions committee.  Dr. Mittauer completed internship and residency at WashU Medicine/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, graduating in 2025. He enjoyed the opportunity to be involved in both medical student and resident education throughout his training and was selected as second-year class Resident of the Year in 2024.

He was honored with the opportunity to present at Internal Medicine Grand Rounds regarding the diagnosis, management, and healthcare impact of MASLD, and served as a shelf exam tutor for clerkship students in Internal Medicine. After multiple stages of medical training at WashU Medicine/Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Dr. Mittauer is thrilled to stay on and join an accomplished group of hospitalists in providing excellence in patient care and medical education. His academic interests include inpatient medicine, medical student and resident education and wellness, and metabolic liver disease. When he is not at work, he enjoys playing guitar, trying new restaurants, being outdoors in Forest Park, and spending time with his wife and their Pomeranian Bean.
