Dr. Donald Hong joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases as an Assistant Professor as of July 2023. Dr. Hong is the Associate Medical Director of the St. Louis County Sexual Health Clinic and a faculty member within the St. Louis STI/HIV Prevention Training Center. Dr. Hong specializes in HIV and sexual health care. He has a special interest in community and provider education regarding the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. His research focuses on the diagnosis, classification, and treatment of syphilis within inpatient settings as well as the treatment of syphilis within the community.
He mentors medical students, residents, and fellows within the clinical setting and serves as the rotation director for the Washington University Internal Medicine residency Sexual Health Clinic rotation. His key Interests are HIV treatment, sexual health care and inpatient infectious diseases care. His research areas are studying the inpatient diagnosis, classification, treatment of syphilis and the use of guideline directed syphilis care and studying the differing patterns of outpatient STI treatment to help focus educational efforts. Dr. Hong was born and raised in the St. Louis area and outside of work enjoys cheering for St. Louis/Mizzou sports teams and spending time with his family.
