Dr. David Zhang joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in June 2025. He was raised in San Antonio, Texas. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, where he studied physics and graduated with college honors. During his time in college, was inducted into the physics honor society, Sigma Pi Sigma, and did research in biophysics and epigenetics. He then attended WashU Medicine, where he served as a liaison for the admission’s team and received the Ruth Bebermeyer Award for demonstration of exceptional kindness and empathy towards others.
Dr. Zhang then completed his internship and residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/WashU Medicine prior to joining the division in 2025. During his time in residence, he has maintained an interest in medical education. He has conducted research on how the humanities, and especially art, can enrich medical education. He has helped lead guided walking tours of the Kemper Art Museum with medical students and participated in reflection rounds afterwards. His current interests are general internal medicine with a special interest in pulmonology and critical care.
He is also eager to mentor trainees and students, and to further his interest in medical education. In his free time, he enjoys hiking and camping. It is his goal to one day visit all of America’s national parks. He also enjoys reading, poetry, meditating, playing board games, and visiting with friends. He looks forward to providing care for his patients as a member of the Division of Hospital Medicine.
