Dr. Brett Case joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases as an instructor as of June 2023. Brett obtained his PhD in the laboratory of Mark R. Denison at Vanderbilt University where he studied the requirements of coronavirus capping, proofreading, and immune evasion. Upon joining the Diamond Laboratory in 2018, he initially investigated the mechanism of IFIT-mediated antiviral restriction. However, with the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, he quickly returned to the world of coronaviruses. Since 2020, he has helped lead and support numerous studies including development of SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis models, vaccine design and characterization, monoclonal antibody discovery, and protein-based therapeutics. His primary research interests include vaccine design, generation of broadly cross-reactive immune responses, mucosal immunity, viral immunology, and emerging pathogens.
