Dr. Bashar Natour joins the Department of Medicine

Bashar Natour, MD

Dr. Bashar Natour joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in 2025. He was born and raised in Amman, Jordan, he earned his medical degree from the Hashemite University Medical School in 2019 before moving to the United States to continue his training. Dr. Natour completed his internal medicine residency at Cook County Health from 2021 to 2024, where he excelled both clinically and academically. His leadership, dedication, and commitment to medical education led to his selection for an additional year as Chief Resident, a role that allowed him to mentor junior trainees and contribute to program development.  

During residency, he was honored with the Scholarship and Clinical Skills Award in recognition of his exceptional clinical acumen. Additionally, he played a key role in residency leadership, serving on the Curriculum Committee and as a member of the Resident Union, where he advocated for medical trainees and worked on initiatives to enhance residency training and work conditions. As Chief Resident, Dr. Natour was heavily involved in medical education, leading morning report, journal club, ambulatory lecture series, and simulation lab sessions to enhance clinical reasoning and procedural skills among trainees. He also chaired the Professionalism Committee, focusing on fostering a positive learning environment and addressing ethical challenges in medical practice.  

Additionally, he presented the Department of Medicine grand rounds on evidence-based practices of inpatient anticoagulation, focusing on improving patient safety and outcomes by highlighting frequent indications and potential inappropriate uses. Dr. Natour’s clinical interests include hospital medicine, gastroenterology, and preventive care, with a focus on optimizing patient outcomes through evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives. He is particularly passionate about medical education, regularly mentoring medical students and residents to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. Beyond medicine, Dr. Natour enjoys leading an active lifestyle and is an avid soccer player, weightlifter, runner, and cyclist.
