Dr. Basant Eltaher joins the Department of Medicine

Basant Eltaher, MD

Dr. Basant Eltaher joins the Department of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor as of July 2026.

Dr. Eltaher was born and raised in Egypt and completed her medical education at Ain Shams University Hospital in 2019. Following medical school, she completed a one-year internship at Ain Shams University Hospital. During that time, which coincided with the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she developed a strong interest in inpatient hospital medicine and triaging acute cases in the emergency department. In parallel, she was also actively involved in COVID-19 related research projects, with a particular focus on potential therapeutic strategies.

Dr. Eltaher subsequently joined as a resident at Ain Shams University Hospital where she was extensively involved in the care of inpatient leukemia patients. During her clinical training, she had the opportunity to care for patients in the bone marrow transplant unit, where she managed complex hematologic conditions and transplantation-related complications. Working closely with this patient population provided meaningful exposure to high-acuity oncology care and deepened her commitment to, and interest in, the field of hematology.

She later relocated to the United States, where she completed her Internal Medicine residency at Rochester General Hospital in New York in 2026. During her training there, she was actively engaged in multiple research projects, with a particular focus on thrombosis and anticoagulation, exploring both clinical outcomes and optimal management strategies in patients at risk for thromboembolic events. Outside of medicine, Dr. Eltaher values spending quality time with her family and friends. She also enjoys reading classical literature and engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking.
