Dr. Aaron Greenspan joins the Department of Medicine

Aaron Greenspan, MD

Dr. Aaron Greenspan joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology as an Assistant Professor in July 2024.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA followed by a Doctor of Medicine from University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA.  He remained in Pittsburgh for an Internal Medicine Residency.  Dr. Greenspan completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology/Hepatology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine. After graduation, Dr Greenspan entered private practice as an independent, solo gastroenterologist and has since practiced in the solo and group settings.  He has had robust private practice experience in standard GI evaluations and procedures, biliary disease including ERPC, complicated IBD and IBS, small bowel enteroscopy, capsule endoscopy, and G-tube management, as well as liver disease including Hepatitis B and C.

In the past few years, Dr. Greenspan has expanded his scope of practice to include working in traditionally underserved rural areas of Illinois where he offers clinic services and routine endoscopy.  He is currently serving as the medical director for two hospital endoscopy departments.  He currently serves on the board of directors of Southern Illinois Healthcare Association.  He is interested in administration of medical departments to protect the physicians and their ability to make decisions in the best interests of their patients.  He also served on the St Louis Children’s Hospital Development Board.  Giving back to the community is important to Dr Greenspan.  He currently serves in the US Air Force Reserve and is currently the Commander of the 442 Medical Squadron at Whiteman AFB, MO. Additionally, he serves as a part-time police officer for the Grant Fork, IL police department.
