The DOM Advising Core Planning Team which includes Drs. Carol Faulk, Marty Kerrigan, Dennis Chang, Eileen Lee, and Abby Spencer has been building an innovative DOM advising system and will be rolling out its second annual iteration with a Residency Application Kick Off event in July. The team is grateful to all advisors and are excited to keep refining the advising system to best serve our students pursuing IM. Our DOM advising team has centralized and standardized how we assign students and train our advisors so our advising team is up-to-date on the residency application review process, assessing student’s competitiveness and program “fit,” advising on signaling strategy, and helping to ensure our students have a realistic picture of where to apply.

DOM Educator Development
Upcoming Sessions: Feedback for Learning, Equity, & eXcellence (FLEX) Faculty Development pilot: FLEX is a 3-session faculty development series for faculty to engage in a unique, individually tailored approach to developing and delivering equitable feedback in the clinical learning environment. Our curriculum was built by an interprofessional team of our very own WashU students, residents, nurses, educators, faculty, and experts.

Our curriculum includes small and large group discussions, narrative testimonies from real learners for us to review and reflect on together, simulated attending round video clips starring our very own superb educator Dr. Alex Thomas playing the role of Dr. Lee along with other trainees you may recognize, and facilitated discussions about our experience with delivering and receiving feedback.
Through this 3-session series, we aim to provide a safe space to engage your peers and colleagues in honest conversations about providing equitable feedback to learners. Our curriculum is also built to foster sustainable growth through interim self-reflective activities between sessions.
This is a grant-funded faculty development series as part of the ABIM/ACP/AAIM/Moore Foundation Building Trust Through Health Care Equity, Inclusion and Diagnostic Excellence in Internal Medicine Training grant. Sessions are on May 27th, June 4th and June 22nd.
Roads to Success Seminars: Next Roads to Success seminar will be in the fall. Specific dates are to be determined.
