The start of a new year always ushers in a sense of excitement and renewal in the world of medical education. Though our academic ‘new year’ may still be months away, planning and preparation for our incoming class of learners is underway and at everyone’s height of mind. Our fellowships capped off a busy recruitment season with a highly successful match in December, while our residency program leaders recently completed their final interview day and are now finalizing rank lists. On the other end of the spectrum, our undergraduate medical education leaders just completed another cycle in the Gateway Curriculum, accommodating an unprecedented number of medical students through successful immersions, clerkships, and advanced clinical rotations while simultaneously supporting them through the residency application process. At all levels, preparation for onboarding new learners is getting underway as we dive into the monumental task of welcoming more than 120 new members of the DOM community this summer.
It is utterly amazing to see the passion and dedication of our faculty and staff as they work tirelessly to ensure the best learning experience possible for our students, residents, and fellows. I am consistently in awe of the level at which our faculty and staff strive to improve and innovate our UME and GME programs with the learner experience in mind. As we continue to delve into onboarding and orientation, I have no doubt that this passion will be abundantly evident to our newcomers, and that they will feel fully assured that our programs can offer the support and mentorship necessary to aide them successfully through the next stage in their careers.
