Dr. Thayse Brüggemann joins the Department of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine as an Assistant Professor as of August 2026.
Dr. Brüggemann research focuses on the mechanistic basis of lung inflammation and its resolution, with a particular emphasis on allergic lung inflammation. She integrates experimental models of disease, immunology, and lipid mediator biology with emerging technologies such as spatial transcriptomics to define pathways that regulate immune cell function and tissue homeostasis.
Dr. Brüggemann’s work has contributed to understanding how specialized pro-resolving mediator pathways can be disrupted during inflammation and their potent action to restore tissue homeostasis providing insight into potential therapeutical targets in inflammatory lung diseases. She is an active contributor to NIH-funded research programs that focus on mechanistic discoveries with clinically relevant disease phenotypes. In addition to her research, she is committed to mentorship and training in pulmonary biology, providing hands-on supervision to trainees and fostering development in experimental design and translational thinking. She also contributes to the scientific community through peer review in immunology and pulmonary research.
