Dr. Bassam AlHamer joins the Department of Medicine

Bassam AlHamer, MB Bch BAO

Dr. Bassam AlHamer joins the Department of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Lipid Research as an Instructor as of August 2026.

Dr. AlHamer comes to the Division of Endocrinology with clinical interests in lipidology, cardiometabolic disease, and diabetes, and a particular focus on cardiovascular risk assessment and prevention. He is especially motivated to improve lipid-related care for underserved populations.

Throughout his fellowship training, he has cultivated a strong commitment to medical education. As a Measey Medical Education Fellow, he designed and implemented a dedicated lipidology curriculum for endocrinology fellows, addressing a recognized gap in subspecialty training in the evaluation and management of dyslipidemias. He has taught broadly across the undergraduate and graduate medical education continuum. Dr. AlHamer looks forward to continuing to teach and mentor trainees while building a clinical and academic practice in lipidology and preventive cardiometabolic medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. Outside of medicine, he is an avid chess player and enjoys rock climbing and running.
