Dr. Sindhuja Kukkala joins the Department of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor as of July 2026.
She was born in India and soon after moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Then right after high school, she went back to India for medical school at GSL Medical College in Rajahmundry, India where she received her medical degree and completed her internship in 2020. After graduating from medical school, she volunteered at hospitals, clinics, and at food pantries. Volunteering has solidified her interest to serve the underserved populations. She also did externships at various clinics /hospitals to gain experience in the US hospital system. The breadth of knowledge in internal medicine is what captivated her to pursue internal medicine residency.
Dr. Kukkala then completed her internal medicine residency training at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, before joining Hospital Medicine in 2026. She had varied interests during her training period. She enjoyed teaching and working with her colleagues and medical students during her residency. She was involved in a QI project with other residents that involved creating algorithms for rapid responses for residents to use.
Her key areas of interest in medicine are general internal medicine, serving underserved patient populations, quality improvement, POCUS training, and medical education. She always made the time for her hobbies which include solo travelling, hanging out with colleagues, trying out new restaurants, gardening, cooking Indian food, and spending time with family. Dr. Kukkala looks forward to joining the Department of Medicine and serving the community as a member of Hospital Medicine.
