Dr. Ko Harada joins the Department of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor as of July 2026.
Dr. Harada is a board-certified internal medicine physician and geriatrician, with broad training across inpatient medicine, geriatric medicine, and clinical research. Dr. Harada received his medical degree from Okayama University School of Medicine in Japan and completed a PhD in General Medicine at Okayama University Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He subsequently completed internal medicine residency training at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York. He later pursued fellowship training at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, which further strengthened his expertise in the management of older adults and patients with multimorbidity, skills that inform his current practice in hospital medicine.
Clinically, Dr. Harada’s interests center on high-quality inpatient care, the management of medically complex patients, surgical co-management, care for older adults, and effective interdisciplinary collaboration. He is particularly interested in optimizing care delivery for hospitalized adults through evidence-based practice, comprehensive care, and shared decision-making in acute care settings.
Dr. Harada is an active clinician-scientist with a strong research focus on population-based and outcomes research relevant to inpatient and chronic disease care. As a chief investigator, he has led multiple international epidemiologic studies examining mortality trends in diseases such as dementia, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, nontuberculous mycobacterial disease and sarcoidosis. He also has experience conducting collaborative clinical research with surgical teams, including projects that evaluated perioperative risk and outcomes among patients with chronic kidney disease.
In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. Harada is committed to medical education and has received multiple awards recognizing excellence in teaching and research. Outside of medicine, he enjoys traveling, skiing, and spending time with his family.
