Dr. Annie Lien joins the Department of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine as an Instructor as of July 2026.
Dr. Lien was born in Taiwan and later raised in New Jersey. Dr. Lien attended Johns Hopkins University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree with a major in Public Health Studies. During her undergraduate training, she developed a strong interest in population health, health equity, and the delivery of comprehensive medical care across diverse communities.
Dr. Lien received her medical degree from NYU Langone Long Island School of Medicine. During medical school, she gained broad clinical exposure and developed a strong foundation in patient-centered care, further solidifying her interest in general internal medicine.
She completed her internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and WashU Medicine. Throughout residency, Dr. Lien developed a strong foundation in the care of medically complex hospitalized patients and worked closely with interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes. During her residency training, she completed an away clinical rotation in Taiwan, which strengthened her cultural competence and reinforced her interest in caring for linguistically and culturally diverse patient populations. She enjoys teaching and working with both medical students and residents and values mentorship and collaboration in medical education.
Dr. Lien’s current clinical interests include general internal medicine with a focus on inpatient hospital care. She has a particular interest in caring for Mandarin-speaking patients and in improving access to care for patients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. While practicing hospital medicine, she maintains a long-term interest in primary care and continuity of care across clinical settings.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Lien enjoys seeking out new restaurants and finding new sushi places. She looks forward to providing compassionate, high-quality care to her patients as a member of Hospital Medicine.
