I am pleased to announce that Michael Lin, MD, SFHM, Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Medicine, Geriatrics and Hospital Medicine has been appointed as the new Section Chief of Hospital Medicine in the Division of General Medicine, Geriatrics and Hospital Medicine.

Dr. Lin brings an exceptional track record of leadership, clinical excellence, hospital medicine innovation, and institutional commitment that makes him an outstanding choice for this important role.
Michael Lin, MD, SFHM, Associate Professor of Medicine in Hospital Medicine, completed his WashU Internal Medicine residency in 1997 and returned in 2006 as faculty. In 2020, he provided critical leadership as Interim Chief of Hospital Medicine during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he guided the division through an unprecedented period of clinical and operational challenges. His calm, focused, and solutions-oriented approach, coupled with patient-centered care and faculty support, ensured that our teams were supported and that our patients received the highest standard of care during a time of extraordinary uncertainty.
Dr. Lin currently serves as the BJC Transfer Center Director and BJH Medical Staff Association President, roles in which he has consistently demonstrated steady judgment, operational insight, and a deep dedication to patient-centered care. His ability to collaborate across departments and streamline complex processes has strengthened care coordination throughout the institution.
Dr. Lin transitioned into his new role on January 1, 2026. With his proven leadership, broad institutional perspective, and unwavering commitment to our mission, Dr. Lin is exceptionally well suited to lead the Section of Hospital Medicine into its next chapter.
